My Philosophy
My choice to become a mental health provider has been a very personal one. Mental illness and mental health issues affect everyone. No one is immune, the impact on individuals, family and friends has no boundaries. My philosophy on this has evolved into understanding that personal experiences in our lives mold us, create us, changes our perspective and helps to form the person that we are today. Depending on time frame, this may put us and our family in either a ‘bad place’ or a ‘good place’. It is this understanding that drives me to help those in crisis move to a new and more peaceful place, while also helping those who have found their ‘good place’ stay there. The ‘good place’ is what I like to say comes from your “inner strength”. Having a strong base and inner strength helps you manage mental health issues. This is where we come together as partners in your journey to a healthier mind and improved inner strength. As a team, we will work together to get you to where you would like to be. It is not an easy journey and there will be bumps and even potholes along the way. We may need to enlist the help of others such as a therapist, but ultimately it is you who will utilize the tools given to you to navigate where you want to mentally be. I am here to assist in making your journey as smooth as possible by providing evaluation, diagnosis, planning, education, medication management and monitoring. I do not provide in depth therapy services. I have a therapist on staff. I will expect from you to work with me and a therapist (if needed) to improve your quality of life. This entails keeping appointments, taking medications as prescribed and advising us of any changes in your health or situation. Being honest and truthful is part of our partnership and is crucial in achieving your goals.
About Me
I joined the Air Force after graduating from high school. After completing my service I returned home and went to Nicholls State University in Louisiana for my bachelor’s in nursing. I continued on after graduation into the Navy Nurse Corps. During my 19 year career I have worked in-patient psychiatry, post-surgical, oncology (three different settings), home infusions, home health (a couple of times), a private physicians office, research and case management. While I was working case management at the University of Texas, I decided to go back to school for my NP. While in school, I worked as an in-patient staff nurse at Harris County Psychiatric Center to get current experience.
I wish to assess and treat all mental health issues. However, my special interests are in adolescents, eating disorders, PTSD (esp in the veteran population), and equine therapy.
I enjoy my free time at home with my family and pets. My new passion is crossfit and I enjoy a healthy competition. Being from South Louisiana I am a big SEC football fan, which means my Saturdays are spent glued to the TV.
